Woody Allen’s romantic fantasy Midnight In Paris took top prize at the Writers Guild Awards Sunday. The iconic director won for best original screenplay about a modern-day Hollywood writer [Owen Wilson] who gets the opportunity to hang out with his literary idols, Hemingway and Fitzgerald, in Paris.
The George Clooney film The Descendants won for best adapted screenplay for director Alexander Payne’s version of the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings — an honor he shared with co-writers Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.
This boosts the prospects for each film, of a win at next Sunday’s Academy Awards, where both movies are in the running for best picture.
